Paronella Park – Finally Got There!

I have lost count the amount of times somebody has said to me “Have you been to Paronella Park?”.  We always responded with a no, but we have always wanted to go.  Just after Christmas 2015 we set off on a little road trip with the two boys, swags in tow and some basic camping equipment, seeing where the road took us.  The road took us to many beautiful places, but this place, this place deserves an absolute solo mention, for when it comes to Tourism, they certainly do tourism well!!  Located in beautiful North Queensland, this is place is definitely ‘BUCKET LIST WORTHY’.

I will just tease you with some happy snaps we took as we ventured around the park, as I tell you about how excited we were to finally get here. I could talk for hours about the history of this place, to think about going back in time and the conditions that the original owner went through to create such a magnificent place is simply applaudable. But it truly is somewhere you need to visit yourself to experience the magic, to see it with your own eyes, a place built with one man’s dream, that man being Jose Paronella.  {If you would like to read a brief history on Paronella Park, click here}.

The great thing about this place, overnight camping (caravanning/camper/tent/swags)  is FREE with your ticket purchase.  Yes you heard correctly, you get a powered site FOR FREE when you buy your admission tickets, the facilities are fabulous, clean amenities and a BBQ area at your disposal.  We took this offer up, got there late in the afternoon and set up so we didn’t miss the nighttime tour.  It’s great because you don’t have to rush through the place.  Also, you can get a special card so you can return to visit the park again, FOR FREE within 24 months of your ticket purchase.  It doesn’t stop there, if you come back and bring a family or friend to visit the park, you will get a further 24 months to come back for FREE (correct as at January 2016).  Now, if that isn’t smart marketing I don’t know what is!!!!!!!!  The thing is, even though you’ve seen it once, the incredible (now) owners Mark and Judy Evans are so remarkable that they are constantly preserving the park and the original ballroom will be rebuilt in the near future, that deserves a return trip!  I even had the opportunity to have a chat with owner Mark, and his passion for the place sent shivers through my veins.  They have big plans to expand the caravan/camping facilities, so there will be plenty of room for you to visit (and bring 10 friends)!!

So, when somebody now asks you “have you been to Paronella Park?” your reply needs to be “not yet, but it is certainly on my to do list”!  Help spread the word and sign up to receive their newsletter so you can get regular updates about what’s happening at the park. If you have been, you might want to return, or make sure you tell your friends.  Let’s make sure this place is around so Zac & Brett can take their kids to visit in the future!

Red Baron Seaplane

That moment when I got a text from my bestie “Hey Kell, want to come up in the Red Baron with me?”!

BOOM DIGGITY, replied yes ASAP!

My gorgeous friend Mel received a joy flight {from her awesome husband} in the Red Baron Seaplane to fly over Townsville and Magnetic Island for her birthday and she asked ME to share this with her! It was super awesome!

We totally rocked the headgear {maybe not as glamorous as Catherine Zeta-Jones}, we had the GoPro attached to an extender pole and we got to share an awesome experience together! It was uber cool to go for a fly in a vintage plane and I will cherish that moment forever, even the parts of doing some stunts and having my tummy work its way up my throat!

Townsville By Air

Zac {Master 6} was lucky enough recently to go for a ride in a helicopter over The Strand and Townsville City while the V8’s were on.  My brother, who organised it obviously won the Uncle of the Year Trophy.  Big thanks to Townsville Helicopters, Zac had the rise of his life!

Getting a “Birdseye view” of anywhere is pretty spectacular. My brother took lots of photos for me to share.  At least once in your life treat yourself and do this, memories are lovely treasures!

Strand Ephemera 2015

While we are hanging in Townsville we are trying to get out and about as much as we can! Over the weekend the Strand Ephemera was launched, so we went and checked it out.  What is it you ask? It’s a Sculpture Festival that transforms The Strand into an artist display, and it’s awesome! Check out some of our pics! If you are in the area check it out, you have until 9th August {2015}.

Albany to Perth

Today we travelled back from Albany to Perth. The wind was up so we took it easy, which meant we were travelling most of the day. It was nice to check into the Big 4 in Perth late this afternoon and have a hot shower 🙂

We have had a terrific time travelling around in our Cheapa Campa Motorhome, and have seen snippets of the south west of WA! We encourage you all to give it a go yourselves, it definitely is an affordable way to explore this beautiful Western State!

Definitely going to miss the cooler weather when we head back to Townsville tomorro, so for now, I’m going to snuggle up wth Corey and watch a bit of footy, hoping the North Qld Cowboys beat the Brisbane Broncos 🙂

Good night ya’ll!

Margaret River to Albany

Our travels through WA in our Cheapa Campa continue. We traveled through the beautiful Margaret River through to Albany!  Wow! Wow! Wow! So much to see, glorious wines to be tasted, beers to be drunk, food to be consumed, chocolate to be devoured and parks to be played, and that’s just the start!!! We started our glorious Wednesday morning with a coffee and chocolate tasting at Temper Temper, this place was recommended by some fellow travellers so we have it a go, and it didn’t disappoint!   And it wouldn’t be a visit to Margaret River without visiting a brewery or winery (or both)! Best thing is that most we have read about cater for kids, with huge playgrounds to keep the kiddies entertained it’s a win win for Travelling families!!!    We chose the tourist route and headed towards the Valley of the Giants Treetop Walk, found a great park in Peaceful Bay for the night and did the walk this morning, it’s a must do if you visit the area!!!!            This afternoon we hit Albany and headed to the Discovery Bay Tourism Experience, the historical whaling station! It was amazing, weren’t so much about the old whaling days, so glad everyone told us about that one!   Thanks to having a motorhome, we had another home cooked meal and kids are in bed!  I hope you all have a chance to visit this area, it’s beautiful!!!!!  Kell x

More WA Delights

Travelled down in our Cheapa Campa towards Margaret River today and saw some beautiful places along the way.  First stop was Busselton, taking a walk on the 1.8km Jetty and taking in the gorgeous views! Simply amazing! Grabbed a coffee from the cafe and Zac had a play in the park, all winners here! Grabbed some supplies from the local shops 🙂 We chose the tourist route so we could see more. Stopped at Yallingup and it was another breathtaking place (these WA beaches are pretty awesome)!! Another awesome park for Zac to have a play and Corey & I to check out the views, yep pretty awesome!   After this spot we headed down to Surfers Point in Margaret River, home of the Margaret River Surfing Pro, and guess what?? Anther awesome view! So lovely to see the sun over the ocean in the afternoons! Really is a photography paradise 🙂    Was nice to feel the sand between our toes too! We decided to stay in town at Margaret River so we can get an early start to explore the region! Watch this space for tomorrow’s adventures 🙂

Perth, WA

We had to come across to WA for a wedding and boy have we been knocked for six!  It’s just fabulous! We have been cramming SO much in so we can see as much as possible! Perth and Fremantle are just divine and I encroached everyone to come and visit!

This morning we picked up a Cheapa Campa Motorhome, then headed to Rottnest Island for the afternoon and now we are going to continue our exploring south and surrounds over the next few days!

Please check our Facebook/TheBlondeNomad and Instagram/the_blondenomad for regular updates on our week with our Motorhome 🙂

Visit To The Sunshine Coast

Last week Zac, Brett & I went to the Sunny Coast.  It was a trip to introduce the little guy to his Aunty and Uncle – us being nomadic it was way easier for 11198637_10153123751847025_1046845756_nthem to fly us to them rather than come to us.  So we had a busy busy week of playing and adventuring, and I survived two plane trips with two kids solo (#gome)!

11173433_10153123751862025_351483864_nVery excited at the airport (sad to say goodbye to Corey), we did the ‘obligatory’ family selfie before we boarded, and I made sure I took a quick snap of Bretto, being his first flight and all.  I sometimes feel I neglect the little fellow when it comes to snapping him, so I am making a concerted effort to make sure I have lots of photos (second child syndrome).

Flight was great, kids were perfect! Another tick in the travel check box (keep Zac entertained with books/colouring and the promise of timtam fingers from the Hosties – worked a treat).  Breastfed taking off and landing, Brett slept pretty much for the duration of the flight.  Had a lovely G’ma beside me who was off to visit her Grandson, so it was a dream flight!!  Arrived in Brisbane and the weather was magical – check this shot I took  from the window!

Bretto had a few firsts while we were there, not just a plane trip, but a trip to the beach and a little dip in the ocean.  Of course he loved it, it wasn’t too cold, big smiles all round!  Zac l11208815_10153123751827025_132181490_noved showing him the sand and shells, I don’t want to wish time away, but it will be great when they can run along the beach together!

11118431_10153123751447025_1514828767_nThese shots were taken on Anzac Day at Currimundi Lake, if you are ever on the coast this is a great place to visit.  There are no waves (you can walk over the dunes to the ocean side), so great for little people, and even better that you can walk across to the other side and go adventuring.  Great sand dunes for rolling down too!  We got to see some people landing from their sky dive – they couldn’t of picked a better day!  Great to see lots of families together and using SUPs too – I’ve jotted that down on the old bucket list to give it a go at some point 😉

11198809_10153123751702025_952013827_n     11198907_10153123751722025_1487085004_n   11195296_10153123751587025_940414821_n

We took Zac’s school things with us as well, in between activities we did lots of reading and did all the work he needed to.  We incorporated a lot of other activities into his school, 11173585_10153123751397025_1721508240_nwe visited Mainly Music, Chipmunks (indoor play centre), Sea Life UnderWater World, and did copious amounts of playing and dressing up with his cousins. He mastered a flip on the trampoline too, feeling very proud of himself!11195326_10153123751407025_1580649347_n

Then this happened – Brett is actually 16 weeks old, time is flying by so quickly! I 11208870_10153123751222025_1640171547_nalways get a snap of the boys together to watch them grow, I hope their closeness remains the same as they get older.  Corey didn’t come on this trip so we made sure we sent morning photos!

After a fabulous week, catching up with friends and family and Zac playing with his cousins from morning to night, it was time to head back to Townsville.  Was great to get away for a little while and enjoy some of what the Sunshine Coast has to offer! It really is a great place, make sure you visit!

Until our next little adventure – take care x

Featured Family

While Travelling Australia – it is great linking with other travellers, especially other families. It provides an opportunity to meet up, share ideas, assist with schooling and all the other things (good and bad) that come with raising your children on the road!

One of my first contacts was Mandy at TAWKers “Travel Australia With Kids’!  She founded this group and has a great blog, assisting other travellers who are out there, not only within Australia but families who are coming from overseas!

I love that we are all here to offer advice and share our stories – we are the current ‘Featured Family’ on the TAWKers site – head on over and check it out – click here.  There is also a section on there that you can complete so you can become a Featured Family too 🙂
